Civic was proud to take part in this year’s Tradies Sutherland 2 Surf as the event’s Official Inclusion Partner, helping to champion accessibility and ensure people of all abilities could participate in one of the Sutherland Shire’s most iconic community events.

The annual event once again brought thousands of people together, creating a strong sense of community from Sutherland to Wanda Beach.

This year, 36 Civic Champions took part, demonstrating the importance of making community events accessible to people of all abilities.

At Civic, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to participate in sport, recreation and community events, regardless of ability. Our partnership with Sutherland 2 Surf reflects our ongoing commitment to breaking down barriers and creating a more inclusive community where everyone feels welcome, valued and able to take part.

Throughout the day, participants were supported by family members, friends, volunteers and the wider community, highlighting the positive impact that inclusive events can have in bringing people together. Whether participants were aiming to reach a personal goal, enjoy the experience with friends or simply be part of the day, the focus remained on taking part and enjoying the achievement of reaching the finish line.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Civic Disability Services All Abilities Team Challenge Award. Congratulations to Cameron Moody and Jason Sturman, whose teamwork and determination embodied the spirit of the day. Reflecting on what keeps him coming back to the event, Cameron said, “Once you reach the finish line, it’s a good feeling” – a reward shared by so many participants throughout the day.

A big thank you to everyone from Team Civic who participated, volunteered or supported the event, as well as the organisers and volunteers who helped make the day such a success. Their efforts helped create a welcoming experience for all involved.
