At Civic, we believe in the power of meaningful community connection and practical employment. Our Civic Crew model does exactly that by breaking down traditional employment barriers and helping external organisations hire talented supported workers with disability. This approach gives local businesses short-term workforce solutions while creating fantastic opportunities for participants to build confidence and shine in an inclusive environment.
A great example of this model in action is our newly commenced contract with Sutherland Shire Council. Our crew has stepped in to help manage Council’s extensive archiving and records, bringing a reliable and focused presence to their administration team.
As part of this short-term project, a team of dedicated employees are now working on-site at Council to assist with these vital records. Archiving requires incredible attention to detail, focus and consistency and the team is already proving they are more than up to the task. The positive impact of the workplace environment is best summed up by Thomas, one of the crew members on the ground. “I really enjoy working here,” Thomas shared. “It is great to come in every day, learn how the archiving system works and be part of the team at Council.”
This experience provides our participants with valuable structured daily routines that foster independence, hands-on experience in information management and real-world workplace connections alongside local council staff. This partnership also highlights how Civic Crew can remove the stress of hiring for diversity and inclusion. Many organisations want to build inclusive workplaces but worry about the administrative setup or ongoing support, which is where Civic can step in and solve this by managing the logistics. Participants remain proudly employed by Civic, receiving the expert support they need, while delivering high-quality work on the ground. We are incredibly proud of these crew members leading the charge on this archiving project as they demonstrate the true value of inclusive employment.
