International Women’s Day at Civic

On Wednesday 11 March, our community came together both in person and online to celebrate International Women’s Day, honouring the diverse voices, talents and contributions of the women who make Civic what it is. We were also delighted to welcome Maryanne Stuart MP, Member for Heathcote, who joined our participants and staff to show her support and celebrate alongside us.

The highlight of the morning was a panel of powerhouse women who shared their insights on leadership, advocacy, and inclusion. Our guest speaker, Summah McKinnon from People with Disability Australia (PWDA), provided a wealth of inspiration alongside our very own Operations Manager Katy Williams and Elia from Civic’s Gap Year Program.

Speaking on the importance of ‘leading inclusivity in the workplace’, Summah shared a perspective that resonated with everyone in attendance:

“When we design workplaces that prioritise access and inclusion for women with disability, we’re not only creating opportunities for them, we’re building safer, more inclusive environments for everyone. Inclusion benefits all of us.”

Beyond the inspiring talks, the morning was filled with creativity and connection. Our participants spent time crafting beautiful, beaded necklaces and vibrant flower arrangements, while everyone enjoyed a delicious spread provided by our very own Civic kitchen and catering team.

It was wonderful to see the room (and our virtual space) filled with people sharing stories and celebrating each other’s company over a fantastic morning tea. The conversation was a beautiful reminder of the impact we make when we support and uplift one another.

A huge thank you to our speakers, our catering team and everyone who joined us to make this event so memorable.
